Happy Belated Birthday Zhen Zhen!

Zhen Zhen, a giant panda living at the San Diego Zoo, celebrated his first birthday on Sunday and this picture of him tackling his cake made me smile. According to L.A. Unleashed, the green confection was lovingly made with fruit, vegetables, bamboo and honey glaze.  Yum!  That sounds kinda good.

Little Zhen Zhen is a baby girl and every bit female in her funny antics.
I live in Dallas, TX & took a week’s vacation the last week of June to go to the San Diego Zoo. My only reason for making that journey was to see baby Zhen Zhen.
I was a little disappointed at the space in the ‘viewing area’ at the Panda exhibit. It only allows about 50 visitors at a time and the narrators tend to rush people through because of the large crowds. I had to stand in line 3 different times and spent a maximum of 8 to 10 minutes each go through. On my last pass through, Zhen Zhen was playing with her Mom. It was the cutest thing I have ever seen & worth every minute I was allowed to stay to watch. I had been watching Zhen Zhen grow up on the panda-cam since last November. I have never seen a baby Panda Bear in person but knew it was what I wanted to do with my vacation this year. Again, the experience was worth every minute and cent. I would hope someday that the San Diego zoo can spend the money to enlarge the panda bear viewing area. Had the facility been larger, I would have loved to sit and watch the bears most of the day. They are fascinating and beautiful animals.
